Blessing - Westwood Primary School

Blessings from Westwood Primary School - 2014

Hearts of Gratitude
As a child growing up, I was taught to be grateful and never to ask for much and with that, somehow, I always had enough. Enough to be happy and satisfied. Enough to even share.

My grandmother whom I loved dearly was a great role model.  My faint memories of how she used to create something out of nothing. Her perservance and determination to provide and care for her family was her main concern  and responsibility.  And as I grew up, I prayed and hoped that one day, I might be just as amazing and brave as my grandmother.

Now, I am able to create mosaic art wall mural with simple mosaic chips and fragments.

Mosaic Hearts
I would like to show my appreciation and dedicate this page to the principal, vice principals, teachers and staff of Westwood Primary school. Thank you for believing in my passion for mosaic art making

This mosaic wall mural was created by brilliant seven year old children whom my trainers and I were honoured to have met all of you.  It was a joy guiding and sharing our love for mosaic art making.

We were once strangers and now we are friends.

That is the magic of working side by side to mosaic this stunning mosaic art wall mural which is located just outside the general office.

About Me...Nanette Zehnder

Mosaic Artist and Founder, Mosaic Workshop.

I graduated with a Bachelor in Communication and after working within the industry, I return to what I love most – ART. My first contact with mosaic art was during my countless trips to Australia where i was fascinated by the vibrant colours and the different textures of this amazing art form: Mosaic.

What is mosaic art?
A mosaic piece can be created with a fascinating combination of ceramic pieces, tiles, glass fragments, broken mirror chips, seashells, pebbles and stones.  This intrigued me and thus began my passion for the mosaic art. With my passion and love of mosaic art, I continue to visit many countries, thus increasing my knowledge of the art.

Back in Singapore, my passion and love for the mosaic craft, led to the opening of Mosaic Workshop. It has been about 10 years and I still enjoying meeting people who share the same love for mosaic art.

Mosaic Workshop
I offer mosaic classes for both adults and kids. My mosaic sessions are kept simple but engaging as I encourage all my students to explore and create personal mosaic masterpieces.  At the Mosaic Workshop, it brings me great joy to see many eager mosaic artist chipping and piecing their mosaic art works. A piece of mosaic chip at a time till all is tiled up and as each student completes their mosaic project, a friendship has been formed. And through my mosaic journey in life, I have made many great friends who have touched my life and have encouraged me to create more mosaic pieces along the way. I would like to thank Melissa, Beatrice and Tsuey. I have so blessed that our paths met and I treasure your friendship always.
Mosaic Murals
I love and enjoy creating mosaic murals. It allows me to think outside the box, work beyond my comfort zones and dares myself to be work unconventionally. By experimenting and exploring with new and different materials, each mosaic mural are unlike and works of love.

Mosaic Wall Mural @ Hort Park

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone that contributed to this amazing 'Challenge Your Limits' mosaic making art project (mosaic mural). It has been a great pleasure working with talented and artistic students of National Technological University, the different volunteer groups, secondary school students and the wonderful staff of Hort Park.

Next, I have been asked to continue to work on my blog, sharing my thoughts and feelings of all the mosaic pieces that i have created and the ones that I am working on.

I must admit that I should have done this earlier but better late than never. With this in mind, I shall try my hardest to keep posting all my new mosaic projects and at the same time, to have fun working on it.

Each time I visit the Hort Park, it brings a smile to my face and now, I am able to share the same joy with my daughter.

My pride and joy.

I would like to dedicate all my mosaic inspirations and works to you Megan.

You are my sunshine Forever!

It all began with an idea. Let's challenge our limits. The students of NTU thought to themselves. Every year, they would organise events that were extreme and would push themselves to the limit.
Let's create a mosaic art mural...And this was how we met!

I was asked to come up with ideas and designs. What inspired my designs? Hmm, my inspiration came from the beautiful flowers that were planted in the gardens.

In 2009, this mosaic art mural was created and mosaic with the help of the NTU students and the wonderful volunteers.

This project involved many volunteer groups along with several secondary schools. Each mosaic tile was chipped with alot of love and they were carefully pieced and fitted by at least a thousand participants. Once all the boards have been filled with mosaic tiles. They were ready for grouting and installation.

The Official Opening went along very smoothly and I was close to tears and overwhelmed. I had mixed feelings. I was happy and proud of our accomplishments and sad to know that the project had come to an end.

Official Opening at the Hort Park
Guest of Honor: Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan
Award Ceremony.. Yeah! I got one too.

In conclusion, I will continue with my mosaic journey. Sharing what I know, loving what I do and doing what I love. Thank you for all the memories and hopefully more to come.

Mosaic Workshop

Introduction to Mosaic Art Making
Thank you Renee.
Mosaic Design for Missy B
Nanette Zehnder first opened Mosaic Workshop in 2003. My passion for Mosaic craft has inspired me to share my knowledge and skills. Thus, making my passion and dream a reality, loving what I do and sharing what I know.

Mosaic making has been known for it’s excellent mind relaxation techniques and offers great therapeutic mode for the individual. Therefore before you embark on a mosaic project, it may seem like a daunting task, but in reality few things could be simpler. Trust me!

A mosaic can be made out of any materials that can be embedded into or stuck onto another. Materials such as mosaic tile fragments, beads, glass, mirrors, shells, and even stones can be used to create your very own masterpiece.

Mosaic Tiles @  Mosaic Workshop
Before you begin or experiment a new project, it is useful to acquire a good knowledge of the techniques involves, and it is important to understand the materials you are using. As these skills are simple to acquire, in a very little time you will be able to create your own dazzling pieces.

Mosaic sessions are for adults and children, schools and even corporate team building. These sessions are catered for both beginners and for those with some experience. Mosaic workshops are ongoing sessions and you can sign up upon availability of space.

Kindly note that all mosaic sessions are by appointments only.

Our mosaic workshops includes the following:
  • Adult and Kids Mosaic Workshop
  • Commissioned Mosaic Art Works
  • Community Mosaic Projects
  • Corporate and Team Building Mosaic Sessions
  • 12 & Under Art Classes
